Supporters of Kotoko has been advised to treat with contempt a report by Accra-based Peace FM that former Black Stars striker Anthony Yebaoh would be appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the club sooner than later.
Peace FM in their Wednesday morning sports presentation reported that its impeccable sources had disclosed that Anthony Yeboah would be appointed the CEO of Kotoko. Communications Director Kwame Baah-Nuakoh commenting on the report urged Kotoko supporters to completely ignore the story saying that it held no iota of truth.
“I urge our supporters to treat that report with the contempt it deserves” he said wondering why the station could not verify its facts from the club’s communications desk. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh noted that management and members of the Kotoko fraternity were in no mood to accept any substandard journalism.
He therefore appealed to all sports journalists in the country to stick to the dictates of the profession. “They could have easily cross-checked with us. Nobody contacted me. This is not the type of journalism we want to see” said the Communications Director.
Many Kotoko supporters including Liaison Officer, Edmund Ackah called the office of the Kotoko Express after hearing the report. They expressed shock and surprise about the station’s refusal to cross-check its facts. Liaison Officer Edmund Ackah described the report as mischievous adding that it was meant to throw dust in to the eyes of supporters.
He said it was wrong for any radio station to publish such a story about the club without any verification. He also wondered why Peace FM with its pedigree in broadcasting in Ghana would broadcast such falsehood saying, “It will be best if Kotoko supporters disregard the report.
“Kotoko has a spokesman. The club has a Communications Director. Why did the station refuse to cross-check with the Communications Director for example? The report is baseless, unfound and mischievous. It is just recently that Nana met management to deliberate on the progress of the club. He did not talk about any changes. Nana owns the club and knows what is right. However I say without any fear of contradiction that Anthony Yeboah – the great striker we all know is not coming to head Kotoko” Edmund Ackah stressed.
When Chairman Sylvester Asare-Owusu who was in Accra and had heard the story on was contacted for his comments, he could not help but also advise the teeming Kotoko supporters to disrespect anything that had the potential of retarding the progress his management was making. “We are focused on the foundations we are laying for our development. The supporters are with us and I entreat them to look down upon anything that has the power of derailing the progress the club is making” the Chairman sated.
