28th August 2007

Former Liberty Professionals and Heart of Lions striker Eric Bekoe is expected to join his colleagues at the Ridge Park this week after the management of Heart of Lions released his Card ‘A’ and other relevant documents to Kotoko yesterday. Eric Bekoe whose transfer fee has already been paid is expected to strengthen Kotoko’s attack for next season.

Briefing the Kotoko Express on Sunday, Communications Director Kwame Baah-Nuakoh stated that negotiations had been completed and that all necessary documents needed for the player’s transfer would be released to Kotoko by the close of yesterday. “Our supporters can be rest assured that Eric Bekoe will be a Kotoko player by the time they read this story on Tuesday. We are sealing everything on Monday” he stressed.

The Communications Director noted that management was bent on recruiting good players in its effort to build a strong team for the future. He said the pre-season and recruitment exercise had been successful and absolutely nothing would drive management back. “Everything will be done to achieve the best for Kotoko” said the Communications Director who is vying of a position in the up-coming Ghana League Club Association elections.

Kwame Baah-Nuakoh appealed to Kotoko supporters to rally behind management but before that he observed that the former Heart of Lions player would be a key element in Kotoko’s attacking machinery “We believe he is good and for that reason he will partner the players we already have in attack. As I said we are leaving no stone unturned to present a formidable team for next season. We therefore need total support from our fans”.

Eric Bekoe, a young striker was a Liberty Professionals player before joining Kpando Heart of Lions. He also played for Electricity boys Power FC and as the former Technical Director of the Tema based club, Coach Bashir Hayford could not hide his excitement when the Kotoko Express reached him for his views on the latest addition to his strike force.

“Naturally I am happy. I have known Eric Bekoe for sometime now. He was with me at Starlets and at Power FC. When I was at Heart of Lions, he was also there. He always wants to be with me. As usual he is coming to do his job as a footballer. His presence will be helpful and as coach I have to be excited at this development. We need good materials to build a good team” the coach said.

The presence of Eric Bekoe now shoots Coach Bashir Hayford’s list of players for next season to forty-one. Although the coach submitted the names of forty players to management early last week, he explained to the Kotoko Express on Wednesday that thirty-five players would be registered for the league.

He said he selected forty players in order to safeguard the strength of his team in case of any unforeseen incident. The latest development suggests that six players will be released when the final thirty-five players are registered. It remains to be seen which players will go out of the team.
