Kotoko left winger Douglas Nkrumah has stated that the spirit in camp presently would propel the team to achieve greater things when the 2007/2008 league this season starts. According to him there was unity and co-operation in camp. That in his opinion was an indication of prosperity next season.
The player made these pronouncements in an interview with the Kotoko Express last week. The former Power F. C. midfielder pointed out that Kotoko’s preparation for next season has been the best though more needed to be done. “I think Kotoko has made judicious use of the pre-season time. We as players have learnt a lot and are itching to demonstrate what they have been taught” he said.
Douglas Nkrumah expressed his satisfaction with the team progress and advised his colleagues to eschew complacency. He said: “The task ahead of Kotoko will not be achieved on a silver platter. We must join hands to work as a team. We shouldn’t create the impression that all is well. We need to put aside complacency” he advised.
The player continued as follows: “I know the fans will be expecting more from me in particular because they did not see me well last season. I have been training hard to hit a good form. It is my wish to get first team selection in every match. I hope my determination will help me” he said.
Touching on his performance in the match between the Germany “Burgers” and the Sudanese “Rebels” the left winger intimated that although they lost in two of the three matches, the competitiveness they showed was good. “I am not boasting. I just think we did well. The fact that we lost the trophy doesn’t mean we under performed. The fans should be reminded that the matches were part of the team’s off season preparations. We needed to guard against injury”.
Douglas Nkrumah did not perform too well at the beginning of last season’s league but he hit fantastic form in the latter stages scoring five goals. When asked to comment on the up coming league, he expressed his disappointment with the delayed start of the competition. He condemned the situation where people file legal suits against the Ghana Football Association saying that it could kill interest in the local league if continued.
“I don’t know the opinion of my colleagues but I think this delay cannot be justified. As a professional player, I wish to play competitive football regularly to improve my on performance. This delay is neither helping the players nor the fans” he argued.
