Adamu Mohamed recovers in time for league

Correspondent: David Kyei, Oseikrom

24th October 2007

It was all good news for Kotoko supporters and especially the fans of flamboyant player, Adamu Mohamed, when he returned from over three months of injury to play his first full ninety minutes game for Kotoko.

Many had expected Adamu to show match-rustiness from his long period of inactivity, but the opposite was the case. He put up a spirited performance that made him the toast of fans after the match.

It was therefore not a surprise to see them surround and shower praises on him for his brave fight at the back.

One would be right in saying that the presence of other equally good contenders in the persons of Richard Manu, Prince Anokye, recuperating Ahmed Nyame and Daniel Acquah may have gingered the player to put up the great show in the said match.

However, in an interview with Kotoko Express after the match, Adamu admitted to the influence of competition and also had other reasons for his performance.

“The need to be ahead in the competition for a permanent slot in the defence aside, I also saw my comeback as huge relief to me and the fans. There was therefore no other way for me to convince that I was even better than before”

“I knew people were going to be sceptical about my ability since that was going to be my first match in several months. I therefore prepared physically and mentally for the match. I am therefore not surprised at my output”

He described the periods that he stayed away from matches as one of the difficult times in his career.

“Though I was in pain from my injury and also from staying away from matches, I encouraged myself and had personal training sessions to ensure that I did not lose my stamina. I thank Allah that it really worked for me since I played today’s match without the least sign of fatigue”.

With the 1st December date for the commencement of the 2007/8 season closing in day after day, Adamu says his pre-occupation for now is to get his full fitness by training hard to make the right impact whenever he is selected for action.

Confident that he will do a good job, the rugged defender says the success he aspires for will not be achieved on an individual basis.

“The grandiose nature of plans for the coming season demands that we close our ranks as a team and work hard through unity of purpose. With that, our team will be unstoppable”.

Kotoko has on many occasions described as off-season champions, but the man on whose shoulder will lay the responsibility of partnering others to defend the rear of Kotoko says they have something good up their sleeves for their opponents.

“I am not used to sending warning signals ahead of matches since I enjoying surprising my opponents on the field. However, I will like to say that the determination I see on the faces my colleagues give me the impression that our opponents will be in for big trouble when the season kicks off”.

“We are therefore going to use the period between now and the day for the commencement of the league to correct our mistakes and also train harder to near our peak before the start of the season. That means a lot to us and we are prepared to work towards that,” he said.

To the fans of Kotoko who are itching to see their team transform their fine form into the league, Adamu had a message for them.

“We know how apprehensive they are about our inability to carry out pre-season form into the league in time past. However, I will like to assure them that things have changed and so will be seeing a different Kotoko in the coming season”

“They shouldn’t be perturbed be the teasing of their colleagues from other clubs and only do the right thing by continually praying for us to avoid injuries. The rest of the story will be well told by them when they season starts”.

“I love the fans of Kotoko and wish them all the goodness that they will like to see from us in the coming season. We are partners in the endeavour and so must work in unity to succeed”

When you read reports on some matches, you will not get the results but photos. This makes the report incomplete. I read on GHANAWEB SPORTS that Kotoko is fighting with Hearts over Baba Amando. If it is true, then may I say ""a very big shame unto Kotoko Management"". For how long should the Kotoko Management fight with Hearts over players? The dust has not fully settled over Kofi Abanga, yet they are starting another war. Is management not satisfied with the calibre of players in camp? Who can prove whether Amando can deliver in the league? Where is the guarantee? Kotoko management should be wise and reasonable enough to stop fighting with Hearts over players. The moment management hears that a player has something to do with Hearts, they should completely forget about such a player. From Emmanuel Osei Kufour, Dong Bortey to Charles Taylor to Kofi Abanga, all these episodes should have taught the Kotoko management a lesson but...
