Bekoe donates to Kumasi Children’s Home

By: Jerome Otchere, 18th March 2008

Striker Eric Bekoe may not be charitable to opposing defenders and goalkeepers on the field of play. However, outside the football arena, Kotoko’s intelligent striker loves charity work.

Thus on Thursday March 13, Eric Bekoe, went to the Kumasi Children’s Home to donate toiletries and food items to them. The items included four boxes of ‘Nkatie Burger’ pea nuts, six boxes of Kalypo Fruit Drink, six boxes of Juvita Juice, four boxes of toilet rolls and a bag of rice.

Speaking to the Kotoko Express after the donation, Eric Bekoe was not keen on disclosing the financial value of the items. He said what mattered most was the idea behind the donation and not how much it cost him to purchase the items.

“I wouldn’t love to talk about the cost. It is not too necessary. What is important is what motivated me to do it” the player said.

“I love children and for your information, I have always loved charity work. My dream is to build an orphanage. What I did was only a fraction of my future desire. This is only the beginning of a life time ambition” Bekoe continued.

The player intimated that there was nothing wrong for people to give to the needy arguing that children in foster homes needed more support from society.

Authorities at the orphanage in reaction to Eric Bekoe’ kind gesture praised him for showing concern and having the plight of the children at the orphanage at heart.

They urged all footballers as well as the well-endowed in society to give to the poor. There were no goal posts at the Kumasi Children’s Home. However Eric Bekoe scored high marks with his donation. He won the hearts of the children at the orphanage as he interacted with some of them.

Eric Bekoe used the opportunity to thank all Kotoko supporters and other admirers.

“I thank everybody who has been supporting me. I am also grateful to Jerry Asare, Lt. Colonel Adu, Joe Lakka of Angel FM and Ike also of Ash FM.

“There are many other people and to all of them I say thank you” Bekoe said.
