Fans to rekindle the Baba Yara spirit

Posted: 1st April 2008

Fans of Fabulous Asante Kotoko are expected to rekindle the Kotoko African Spirit at the Baba Yara Stadium when they storm the venue on Sunday to cheer the team onto a resounding victory over Wikki Tourists of Nigeria.

Supporters of the Great Club over the last two seasons have been served with the undesirable duty of traveling to the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium to root for Kotoko during continental assignments.

A worthwhile situation that paved way for renovation works to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium prior to Ghana’s hosting of CAN 2008 last January.

Following the successful completion of the works at the stadium and subsequent ending of the tournament, Kotoko once again have had the opportunity to treat fans to some fluid display of soccer artistry in the ongoing Onetouch Premier League.

Nevertheless, the occasion on Sunday hold a lot for the fans, as they back the team to restore the spirit that has enabled the team to chalk African successes at the Baba Yara Stadium over the past four decades.

Indeed, a jump-packed Baba Yara Stadium is anticipated, as no true fan of Asante Kotoko would like to be left out of this history making process, more so, when the team is experiencing a terrific form.

Kotoko’s spiritual home ground at the Baba Yara Stadium provides fans with a sense of belongingness, home feeling and spacious stands to accommodate the entire supporting front of the team.

This often creates a relatively charged atmosphere which has the propensity to intimidate visiting teams to bow humbly to the Porcupine Warriors in both friendly and competitive matches at their royal home venue.

For the records, the fabulous lads hit 5 goals past Great Olympics in the ongoing Onetouch Premier League, when they first engaged in a competitive match at the stadium after renovation works had been completed at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Fans will definitely seek to draw inspiration from this feat and make frantic efforts to steer the team towards battle on Sunday against our Anglophone neighbours, Wikki Tourist of Nigeria.

Already showing signs of a united front, moreover, after the Greater Accra Regional Circles have successfully elected new executives, the Supporters appear geared up to whip up public interest and excitement, ahead of Sunday’s game.

Kotoko’s strength in depth, aside the quality of players acquired this season, has always been the reason for the loyal and majestic support the team is treated to, anytime they were in action and this laudable attitude of the fans, expectedly so, will be replicated on Sunday.
