Kuffour proves point
By: David Owusu-Mensah
Perfect display of excellent leadership skills buoyed up by a high sense of determination on the part of Emmanuel Osei Kuffour proved pivotal in Kotoko’s win over Ashgold last Sunday.
Playing his first game against the miners after jumping the ship and landing smoothly in the camp of the Porcupines in January last year, the Skipper of the side had it all to do in a game that had earlier been predicted as a testing ground for Kotoko, ahead of their confederation cup duel against Dolphins this weekend.
In spite of the threat Ashgold posed by drawing first blood, “General’s” enormous contribution to the course of Kotoko earned him a spot kick which was neatly converted by new sensation, Francis Coffie.
Ably assisted by his charges, the skipper kept the Porcupine Warriors’ hope of adding the SWAG Cup to the number of tiles the team desire to win this season strongly alive, as he largely played the role of a determined leader and steered the team to score the second once again through Francis Coffie.
The intention of revenging against the Obuasi lads after the miners had managed to secure a one nil win over Kotoko in the 6th week fixture of the Onetouch Premier League first round of matches at the unfancied, Berekum Golden City Park, had been clear, prior to the start of the match and during the entire game.
It was therefore expected of the team to reinstate the terrific form they boast of, this season to call off the bluff of the Obuasi Club who had claimed of being superior over Kotoko in SWAG Cup matches and in recent encounters.
General Kuffour before the match had told this paper about Kotoko's plan to put Ashgold back to where they belong in terms of local club pedigree, since the team from the mining town had gained an undue advantage over Kotoko at the awful pitch at the Berekum Golden City Park.
As anticipated and true to his vehement statements of teaching the Obuasi club, a great football lesson at the newly-designed and well-trimmed pitch at the Baba Yara Stadium, the Reds accordingly fulfilled their promise.
With the cup in the grips of the great porcupine family, “General” Osei Kuffour remains the only player to have won different trophies with three BIG Ghanaian clubs.
Having already won two African titles with Hearts of Oak, the South Africa organized Macufe Cup with Ashgold and recently the two trophies of the Onetouch top 4 and the SWAG Cup with Kotoko.
The sky at this point in time could only be the limit of the experienced and veteran footballer who has seen it all in different competitions at various stages, since he could increase his number of titles by the end of the season, as Kotoko is still in contention for two major diadems, the league trophy and the confederations cup.
