Left full back, Osei Kwame Jnr, has revealed that there is nothing extra-ordinary behind the team’s stunning performance in recent times except team work and cohesion.
According to him, there is total understanding and unity among the players and that he believes, is the only thing propelling Kotoko to greater heights this season.
“I know most opponents are wondering why Kotoko is a difficult side to reckon with. To me the answer is simple. Peace and co-operation is prevailing in camp. We live in harmony as brothers without any factions. On the field, we play in accordance with technical instructions. This is obviously an indication of prosperity".
"I pray it exists forever because it’s the only way we will continue to chalk success to make our fans proud” Osei Kwame made these pronouncements to Kotoko Express last Sunday.
Having chalked 36 points in the Onetouch Premier league first round matches with 11 wins, three draws and a lose; pundits have tipped Kotoko as league favourites though teams like Liberty Professional and Hearts of Lions are giving Kotoko a good run for their money.
It is also important to state here that out of these fifteen matches played; Osei Kwame made eight appearances together with Daniel Acquah and Prince Anokye. When his views was sought about this, he admitted that he needs to work hard to get regular selection in the second round which has been scheduled to kick start on April 13th . He however refuted claims by his critics that he lost his form in the course of the first round matches.
This remarkable achievement notwithstanding, Osei uttered that it would be wrong to create the impression that all is well with the team. As far as he was concerned the task ahead of them especially in the league would not be achieved on a silver platter. He referred to the first five matches in the second round as matches that would be characterized by fireworks and therefore advised his colleagues to stay focused and eschew complacency as he believes it is only through determination and perseverance that they will succeed.
Kotoko will begin the second round of the Onetouch Premier League with a crucial game against R.T.U at the Tamale Stadium having won the first encounter 2-0. Afterwards they will welcome Berekum Arsenals to the famous Baba Yara Stadium before trekking to Kpando to play Heart of Lions. The next two matches will be against Hearts and Tema Youth respectively at Kumasi and the Tema Park. Considering the opponents here, there is no doubt Kotoko will have a tall mountain to climb.
Commenting on their chances of qualification against Nigerian side Wikki Tourists in the CAF Confederations Cup second leg encounter this weekend at the Baba Yara Stadium, the hard working defender was very optimistic that Kotoko will snatch the ticket to the next stage of the competition though he confessed that it would not be a mere formality as people are saying.
“The match is definitely going to be tough. Once we managed to score two goals away, they are also capable of doing similar a thing here. Whatever the case may be, I’m confident we have the men to do the job. There is no way they can survive at the Baba Yara Stadium” he noted, urging the fans to troop to the stadium in their numbers.
