Bekoe needs our prayer and support- Jerry Asare

David Kyei

Posted: 9th May 2008

Eric Bekoe is still the leading scorer in the on-going GT Onetouch premier league, but his difficulty in finding his scoring boots in recent times has become an issue of concern for Ghanaians and Kotoko supporters especially.

Despite that he was able to make inroads in scoring for the Local Black Stars against the Hawks of Togo last week end, the number of scoring chances he made hush of in the league match against Berekum Arsenal at the Baba Yara Stadium last Wednesday has attracted the concern of Kotoko’s operations director, Jerry Asare.

Speaking to Kotoko Express after the match in which Kotoko players effectively fulfilled their promise to fans by calling off the bluff of their opponents with a 2-0 spanking, the usually happy going Jerry was beside himself with worry.

“Despite the victory that pus us comfortable on top of the league, I am not a happy person because if we do not act fast on Bekoe, our dream of adding the goal king trophy to the haul of awards that we have planed for the season would be seriously threatened”.

“Besides that threat, we also have to take a closer look at the reasons why our player Eric Bekoe has suddenly failed to glitter when duty calls,” he said.

What makes the Eric Bekoe issue a worrisome one for Jerry is based on the fact that the player has all the attributes of a lethal striker and therefore should be able to deliver.

“As a matter of fact, I have been having chats with the player to find if there was a problem that was leading him to the loss of concentration in front of the goal post. It is indeed a strange situation to me because until the situation, he was scoring goals from even more difficult situations than the chances he has been squandering lately”.

“Much as I do not know exactly what could be eating up the player’s psyche, I personally feel that the player is being unduly pressured by fans and the high expectations people have of him”.

“Since he is a young player who is yet to deliver the stronger rib bones to be able to live up to the challenge and expectations of the name that he has now, it has become difficult for him to concentrate on the pitch” was what Jerry Asare made of all the things that may be militating against the rediscovery of the player’s scoring feet.

To help solve the problems that he thought were the issue involved, he made a passionate appeal to supporters to do all they could to help the player come out of that realm.

“I wish on behalf of management, the technical team and the player to make a special appeal to fans of Kotoko and football lovers in general to come to gather and give Eric Bekoe all the needed support and encouragement to come out of the situation he finds himself in”.

“Though many players have suffered similar fate, it must be emphasized that when such situations happen, they are encouraged and supported to come out, and that is exactly what I want us all to do for the young player whose real potential is yet to be uncovered”.

“Whilst management does his best to see to the physical needs of the players, I want fans to also take charge of the spiritual well-being of the players so that together, we all can make a lasting impression in the national league as well as the confederations cup”.

On the matches against Berekum Arsenal and the second leg of the confederations cup match against Dolphins, Jerry asked fans to rather concentrate on Sunday’s match.

“It is the plan of management to successfully steer the club not only to domestic success, but also achieve international greatness and this can only be achieved through a conscious effort of supporters to give the necessary support to the team to fight to end to achieve success”.

“We are all aware of the enormity of the task ahead of us as a team. We therefore have to put our shoulders to the wheel and push Kotoko to the achievement of greater heights”.

“One important factor that can ease our pressure as a team is for all supporters make it a point to come to the stadium in their numbers to ensure that Kotoko got the right support to jump into the stage of the competition at the expense of the Dolphins,” was his conclusion.

The entire playing body need our prayers...The management should do their part. They should refrain from making unnecessary remarks about the coach. He is doing a great job and he needs our support to succeed. Calls for his sack are uncalled for. Management should come out and condemn such calls.

We should not expect Eric Bekoe to score in every game. Let us not put so much pressure on him and allow him to be himself. Once he is comfortable, the goals will flow. We should also pray for him every time.

I blame the sports presenters for this sudden turn. The hype is just too much for the poor boy. I will urge him to stay focused and he will triumph. I am positive that in the name of God Almighty, Bekoe will be crowned the Goal King. He has worked hard and he deserves it. God Bless Eric Bekoe and the entire playing body.

Bekoe needs special prayers from the supporters and also he should be motivated enough so as to live up to expectation.

I am really impressed with Jerry's comments. I want Kotoko management and supporters to know that this is not something we should cross our fingers and hope for the best. We have to act fast. For over ten years now, no Kotoko player has won the goal king. Do you think we don't have good strikers? Don't sit down and let 'them' do the same to our darling Bekoe.

Life is like that, sometimes good other times bad but I do not see anything wrong with Bekoe now. Everything is well regardless of chances not able to utilize well as he's noted of. Bekoe, aspire to achieve what you desire and even when you perspire don't retire.

Yes indeed Bekoe needs help. Big names always come with a devil envy. I would ask all supporters of our darling team to rally solidly behind him as Bekoe's success is Kotoko cornerstone.

Please, we outside the country will want to always know what is happening in Kotoko. so it is my passionate appeal that this website will feed us with what is going on in Kotoko. For instance, Eric Bekoe had an injury and we have not heard what the situation looks like up till now. You were suppose to feed us about what E. Bekoe is faring and whether will be able to play in the subsequent matches ahead. So, please the news on the Kotoko web should be at least three days and not to wait for Kotoko express news. Thank you.

I think we need a physiologist to work on Bekoe. The pressure is also coming from sports presenters and journalist who have been hyping the name of the boy. He should keep focus.

I hope Bekoe will be ok by the Grace of God.
