The Owner and Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has expressed absolute faith in the five-member management board he constituted barely two years ago.
The Great King said he was confident that the management team could initiate the sort of transformation needed to propel Kotoko to become the once fearsome side in Africa.
“Manhyia believes that the present management is capable. They are efficient and dedicated to bringing the changes required in enhancing the image of the club” the Asantehene noted in his powerful message delivered by his representative, the Akyempenhene, Oheneba Aduse-Poku at the launching of the tiGO-Kotoko sponsorship deal held last Saturday at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi.
The Great King could not make it to the landmark event but sent a delegation of five powerful chiefs whose presence made the occasion a grand one. The five management members namely Chairman Sylvester Asare-Owusu, Director of Operations Jerry Asare, Director of Finance and Administration George Amoako, Director of Legal Affairs Kwame Boafo and Director of Communications Kwame Baah-Nuakoh were all present and clad in elegant suits.
Representing the mobile cellular giants tiGO, were Board Chairman Tismark Inja, Chief Executive Officer Percy Grundy, Chief Operating Officer, Alex Kamara and the officer in-charge of Regulatory and Government Business, Kwadwo Agyei-Danso.
Members of the Kotoko Patrons Club were also in attendance. The bankroller of King Faisal Alhaji Karim Grunsah was there as well as a representative of Accra Hearts of Oak. Executives of the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regional Circles Council were also present. There were splendid cultural – music and dance performances by the Adinkra Cultural Troupe and the Okyeman Youth Choir. The two entertainment groups added colour to the programme.
The speakers at the launch were succinct in their speeches. Apart from reposing confidence in management, the Akyempimhene in delivering Otumfuo’s message challenged the five-member team to scale to higher heights. “Only the best is good for Kotoko. Kotoko is peerless. Nana urges you to shun mediocrity. He wants you to put all the money to utmost use to the benefit of not only Kotoko and tiGO but also the entire country” he said.
He expressed Manhyia’s gratitude to tiGO and made a passionate appealed to Kotoko fans to patronise the services by tiGO by switching over from any network they were using to tiGO in order that the mobile telephone company would recoup their investments in Kotoko. Mr. Tismark Inja on his part stressed tiGO’s commitment to providing total support for the development of society. He said football was the passion of the nation and also a strong unifying force.
He argued that tiGO’s efforts at ensuring the proper development of society would be incomplete without supporting Kotoko. He recalled that the previous relationship between Millicom Ghana Limited and the club was good. He therefore announced tiGO’s delight at the reunion between the two parties.
Alhaji Karim Grunsah in a solidarity message congratulated management for their hard work saying, “Sylvester is known for his hard work. I congratulate him and his colleagues”. The King Faisal boss ended with his own catch-phrase, “tiGO is the best!”
