Chairman Sylvester Asare-Owusu has explained that the idea of forming the Kotoko Patrons Club is not to sell special tickets to members of the club.
He says it is wrong for people to have the impression that management is establishing the Patrons Club to sell special match tickets to them saying that the Patrons Club is about well-endowed Kotoko supporters who would contribute substantially to the progress and development of the club.
The chairman made this point during the inauguration of newly elected leaders of the Greater Accra Regional Circles' Council at the YMCA Hall in Accra.
He observed that there was a misinformation about the Kotoko Patrons club. Citing an example, he spoke about how he once had a call from the chairman of the Professional League Board (PLB), W.K Abra-Appiah who demanded the league body’s share of what he understood as the sale of special tickets to some Kotoko supporters.
“I told him we had nothing for the PLB because the Patrons Club is not about the sale of special tickets to any of our supporters” he said.
"I explained to him that the Patrons Club is basically about getting well-endowed Kotoko supporters who are willing to make massive financial contributions".
“There will be free entry for members of the club during our matches; their comfort will be guaranteed at the VVIP Lounge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. At the end of every season, there will be a special dinner where management will render account of their contributions’ he added.
To become a member of the Patrons Club which at the moment has 52 members, one would need to make a contribution of 1000 Ghana cedis.
The chairman said contributions by the members of the club would be lodged in a separate account called the ‘Development Fund Account’. He further stated that funds in this account would be spent on developing the infrastructure base of Kotoko.
“Our priority areas are the construction of modern training pitches and camping hostel” he stated.
Sylvester Asare-Owusu stressed that there would be proper management of the funds because that would sustain members’ confidence and interest in the club. The chairman also expressed the desire to leave a good legacy so as to make the work of future management teams easier.
