We are up to the challenge-George Asare
By: David Owusu-Mensah
Fast improving utility player, George Asare believes Kotoko can match up squarely to the forthcoming challenge that beckons the team in the weeks ahead, especially the duel against, Dolphins FC of Nigeria in the return leg of the 1/8th stage of this year’s CAF confederations cup competition.
Kotoko is yet to set the ball rolling in the second round of the ongoing Onetouch Premier League and have to play five immediate tough matches together with the continental assignment with Dolphins, making it a total of six matches, but George insists Kotoko possess the required arsenal to guide them through success.
Speaking exclusively to Kotoko Express on phone, the former player of the Pope John Senior High School expressed his willingness to play a part in the Kotoko squad that will qualify to the next stage of the Confederations cup and subsequently, proceed to accumulate all three points in the first five matches of the second round in the ongoing Onetouch Premier League matches.
“Things are going on well at training and we are sure of winning all our impending matches with God on our side”. He noted.
“For the Dolphins match in Nigeria, I can conclude that, the Referee helped them to run 2-0 victors and they do not look unbeatable and strong as some people might have thought. I know for sure we will be able to beat them with the required number of goals to enable us proceed to the next stage of the competition”. He confidently added.
With the first five league matches in the second round looming, George is firmly convinced Kotoko by relying on its current united front with the added attitude of commitment could triumph against RTU, Berekum Arsenal, Hearts of Lions, Hearts of Oak and Tema Youth in that order.
“We can beat all the first five opponents no matter the challenge they put up and like I always say, we have to maintain the existing accommodating atmosphere of unity among the players and also pray no one gets injured.” He said.
According to him, though there have been no special training or whatsoever to match the task ahead, the schedule for training has changed a bit with light works in the morning and serious training late in the afternoon.
This he believes could be one of the best ways to guarantee them victory in the next three or four weeks when the team gets much busy with competitive matches that will steer them to attaining the intended success before the start of the season.
George Asare played a commendable role in the Kotoko side that defeated Wikki Tourist of Nigeria 4-1, in the 1/6th stage of the Confederations cup and did also featured for the team against Dolphins during which he pulled a muscle.
He has since joined his team mates at training but has only been allowed to do a lot of jogging and runs along the ends of the pitch, although he complains of feeling light pains within his legs.
Predictably, he could be the one to be drafted in to replace the suspended Daniel Acquah in central defence when Kotoko engaged the domestically embattled Dolphins of Nigeria, later on Sunday.
George Asare before joining the Porcupine family had played for local teams like King Faisal, Cornerstones and Berekum Arsenal and has continually prove his resilience anytime Coach Bash offers him the opportunity to play.
The utility player if nurtured well and encouraged could hold the forts for the Porcupine Warriors at any level though he only has two continental club caps to his credit after joining Kotoko earlier this season.
