Liberty draw is wake up call- Awudu Nuhu

The contingent that stormed the El-Wak Stadium on Saturday may have well mapped out strategies under their sleeves that would have equally provided them the arsenal to upstage Liberty Professionals on match day 20 fixtures of the Onetouch Premier League but the approach to the game was too casual.

Unlike several league games in which the Fabulous Boys have started on a bright note and have looked more purposeful towards winning matches, that of last Saturday was not the best, hence the deserving one-all draw result achieved.

Commenting on the players psychological attitude towards the game, Physical Instructor, Awudu Nuhu, conceded that the attitude of the players on the field of play could have been better than was witnessed.

“The players’ approach to the game was quite slow and I think that cost us and even made it difficult for us to respond promptly to the early goal we conceded”.

The astute physical trainer was of the opinion that the consistent victories the team has managed to record may have resulted in the more relaxed manner with which the players went into the game.

“I think the players went into the match with the idea that, it was one of those games they could win by attacking the opponents’ goal area to score at anytime they wanted to do so. This unfortunate condition was the main problem that made us to struggle in turning on the heat on the Liberty players”.

“However, by the grace of the Almighty God we managed to overcome the storm and finished so well. In most occasions, they often say when you start well, it is possible to end perfectly as well and vice versa, but in our case we began poorly and ended well with the equalizing goal.” He stated.

Certainly the 1-1 result on Saturday may have provided the technical team the opportunity to predict what may occur when the players fail to take each game by the scruff.

In the same way, it seemed to have compelled them to revise their notes in the bid to achieve desired results from the upcoming tough league games, which will in effect wrap up the diadem for the Porcupine Warriors.

Awudu Nuhu revealed that the result has thought the team a lesson that will help the technical bench in strategising for the immediate matches that fall in the way of the Reds.

“The outcome of the game is a wake up call for all of us to acknowledge the fact that, there are more teams left that could prove resilient to the challenge we throw at them. We hope to put things together and smoothen all rough edges in the team before making the trip to Tamale on Wednesday”. He assured.

The ninety minutes action was a heart ceasing moment for all Kotoko fans, especially, those who were at the Stadium, since many of them had already concluded the Porcupine warriors had lost the game. Nonetheless, the kum apem a, apem beba spirit was invigorated in a dramatic fashion when Francis “totti’ Akwaffo secured parity for Kotoko just on the stroke of full time.

Relegation-threatened Accra Great Olympics remains the only team for the Porcupine Warriors to encounter in the Greater Accra Region; the Oseikrom lads now have three wins and two draws with regard to this year’s league matches played in the capital.
