Kotoko-Ittihad date confirmed
Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup 1/16th stage tie against Libyan Champions Al-Ittihad will come off on Friday, July 11, 2008 at the June 11 Sports Stadium in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
Director of Communications Kwame Baah-Nuakoh disclosed this information to Kotoko Express after he received confirmation from officials of Al-Ittihad last week Thursday.
The Kotoko spokesman said management and the technical bench has been planning feverishly for that crucial encounter in the North African country and added that the confirmation of the date and venue would only help management finalise its plans for the match.
Kotoko Express has it on authority that the team will leave the shores of Ghana on July 7 – four clear days ahead of the titanic clash.
Kotoko must beat the Libyans in Tripoli or secure a favourable result to make the task of advancing to the league stage of the competition a little easier when the second leg is honoured at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, July 27.
Kotoko reached this stage of the competition after beating Dolphins FC of Nigeria 4-3 on aggregate in the second preliminary stage. Before then, the Porcupine Warriors eliminated another Nigerian side, Wikki Tourist 6-3 on aggregate.
