As part of moves to keep Kumasi Asante Kotoko focused on the remaining matches in the Onetouch Premier League and also get well prepared for the CAF Confederations Cup tie against Al-Ittihad of Libya next month, management will meet the playing body at the club’s camping base in Kumasi evening.
Chairman Sylvester Asare-Owusu in an address to the players and members of the technical bench at an emergency meeting after Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Olympics described the meeting as crucial and very important.
He said management is dissatisfied with the attitude of the team in recent times.
“Zaytuna beat Olympics; in fact almost every club beat Olympics. We never expected you to lose. The fans are accusing us of taking money from Olympics in order to lose. They said the same thing against Hasaacas. We think this is the time for that to stop. We believe your attitude to matches of late is not good. We need to sit down and deliberate on the way forward” he said.
Sylvester Asare-Owusu observed that despite taking a commanding lead, the league is not over for Kotoko. He therefore noted that there was the urgent need for the players to wake up from their slumber. He stated that management would take serious measures to ensure professionalism among the players to save the club from any embarrassment.
“You shouldn’t forget that our desire is to build an all conquering team. We do not want a repeat of such a bad performance because we cannot progress with that”
“You started well. If you had played badly from the beginning, you wouldn’t have been where you are now. We demand seriousness from all of you else, we will find means of making you serious” Sylvester Asare-Owusu told the players.
“We beat Olympics 5-0 in Kumasi. Why should we lose 2-0 in Accra? The supporters are angry. They are making all manner of allegations against us. You must know that at Kotoko, the standard is very high” he continued.
Director of Operations, Jerry Asare and Director of Finance Administration, George Amoako who were also present at Wednesday’s meeting, were noticeably distressed with events that unfolded in the match.
They did not speak but they could be seen nodding their heads apparently in total support of the chairman’s address to the players.
