Skipper Emmanuel Osei Kuffour says there was no deliberate action on the part of Kotoko players to lose to Great Olympics in Wednesday’s Onetouch Premier League match played in front of sparsely seated spectators at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium.
The player said he and his colleagues were equally unhappy with events in the match and therefore pleaded for forgiveness from management and the teeming supporters of the club.
The circumstances under which the team lost to the relegation threatened club however remained the talking point after the match. Kotoko’s performance was below par.
Chairman Sylvester Asare-Owusu among other measures taken to halt the streak of loses being suffered announced management’s decision to freeze winning bonuses until the season ends.
Skipper Osei Kuffour, on his part was apologetic and hoped that management and supporters will have a place in their hearts to give them the chance to make amends.
“We are sorry. This won’t happen again” he said.
“We were shuttered by the dubious goal awarded Olympics in the 2nd minute. Our focus shifted to the referee because we felt cheated. I say we are sorry” Kuffour intimated.
Opoku Afriyie, Kotoko and Black Stars’ Team Manager, who has been in the camp of the Black Stars for some weeks now had this to say as his contribution at the meeting;
“The management members have frozen winning bonuses because they are unhappy with what went on. I believe that if the team wins the four remaining matches, they will rescind their decision. I therefore urge you to be serious with the remaining matches”.
