Kotoko's medical department to be revamped
By: Jerome Otchere
Information available to your authoritative Kotoko Express indicates that in a bid to make Kumasi Asante Kotoko even more attractive than it presently looks, management has outlined specific plans that will take the club to higher level in all aspects of the game.
Although management members contacted were reluctant to spill the beans on these specific plans, which has been earmarked for execution sooner than later, Kotoko Express reports authoritatively that the medical team of the club will benefit greatly.
The Kotoko medical team will be composed of specialist medical doctors with Dr. Kwaku Boateng as the head. The team also has Physiotherapist, Omono Asamoah; Physical Trainer, Awudu Nuhu and Masseur, Richard Hammond as members.
The head of the medical team, Dr. Kwaku Boateng in an exclusive interview with this paper on Monday confirmed that he has had progressive discussions on how to equip the club’s medical team, make it more functional and relevant to the course of the club.
He further revealed that a proposal is to be submitted to management. Though Dr. Boateng was quiet on details of the proposal, he stated that the contents of the document are good for the club.
“The document takes a broader view of the medical team. What it can do with the right resources and the points listed in this document have been professionally explained. It is about the review and assessment of the players. It is also about their diet and psychological make-up” he said.
Dr. Kwaku Boating's relationship with Kotoko dates back to his student days at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). While at KNUST, Dr. Boateng was part of a massive number of students who thronged the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to watch Kotoko matches.
He has since the Herbert Mensah administration been working on a voluntary basis and is hoping to continue to render his valuable service to the club he loves so much.
“I was following the club as a dyed-in-the-wool supporter. I watched league, continental and even training matches at the Ridge Park. That was the days of Herbert Mensah” he said, adding that it was former team Manager, Alhaji Yahaya who introduced him to the former CEO after which he decided to offer a helping hand to the club by attending to injured players at training for instance.
It is worth noting that Dr. Kwaku Boateng is a General Medical Practitioner. He has had major courses in International Health including Sports Medicine in U.S.A. As he does his voluntary work for Kotoko, his ultimate aim is to see the players and other technical staff constantly in good health besides winning laurels on the local and international scenes.
