Management warns player agents
By: Jerome Otchere
The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has warned that it would not tolerate any unprofessional conduct from player agents in and outside the country.
Director of Operations, Jerry Asare in an interview with Kotoko Express said it has come to management’s notice that some unscrupulous people hiding under the cover of ‘fake’ licensed player agents were planning an invasion of the team’s camp.
He said management is not ready to deal with player agents who would use the back door adding that management would rather expose whoever dares to disrespect the rules binding the transfer of players from one team to another. “We find the attitude of these so-called player agents provocative and unacceptable” he stated.
“Our position is that anybody interested in our players should first write to us officially. They should not make moves of dealing with the players directly. That is wrong. We will report any misconduct on the part of any agent to the Ghana Football Association and FIFA” he said.
Quoting both the GFA and FIFA rules on the transfer of players, the Director of Operations reiterated that it was important for all player agents to abide by the rules and regulations which govern the game. He said the GFA and FIFA for that matter did not formulate those guidelines for the fun of it.
“It is for a good reason that these rules were made. The rules are there so that we can operate without trouble, be disciplined and professional as well” said Jerry Asare who recalled how difficult it was for management during its recruitment and team building efforts. “It’s been a painstaking work for us. Our team building story has not been without sweat. Therefore we will not allow any group of people to destroy what we have built with great investment”.
While stressing that management would come yet again on the conduct of these co-called player agents, the Director of Operations reminded Kotoko players to be professional.
“Our players also have a role to play. We want them to know that we are there for their interest. We have an open-door policy. For that reason, we will not impede the movement of any player when we are satisfied with the terms being offered. We are only asking that the right procedure must be followed. That demand is in the interest of the players” he maintained.
“People should know that Kotoko is playing in Africa this year. We will also participate in next year’s Champions League. We must therefore keep the core of our team. We will not disintegrate it. There are other local engagements too like the Top 4 and the 2008/2009 League. Our team must be intact. We do not want our players to have divided attention because of these transfer issues. That is why we are insisting that the right thing should be done” Jerry Asare concluded.
