We expect nothing but victory – Management
15th August 08
The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko says it expects nothing but victory on Sunday when the Porcupine Warriors clash with Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the first Group B match of the Confederation Cup. Management chairman, Sylvester Asare Owusu and Director of Operations, Jerry Asare and George Amoako who has been following the team’s training sessions in Sousse spoke to Jerome Otchere on their expectations.
 Sylvester Asare Owusu, Chairman
I do not know much about Etoile du Sahel in terms of their current form but the fact that they won the Champions League last year and could not defend it this year means they would want to excel in the Confederation Cup and win it if possible. I understand they have signed on a new coach and also registering some good players to strengthen their team. I am told these new players and the coach have been mandated to do everything to win this cup. This has brought great competition into the team. It is good for them but let me assure Kotoko supporters that we will not be intimidated by that. We are eschewing complacency! We have young talented players who can run tirelessly for the period of the game. These young players also have skill which can match the Tunisians very well. To that end, I say that we are to the task. I expect a win on Sunday. Finally, I appeal to our supporters back home to pray for us. We are in Tunisia to defend the flag of Ghana. We will not disappoint them.
 Jerry Asare, Director of Operations
Etoile du Sahel as we all know is a very strong side on the African continent. They won the Champions League last year but they could not defend their title this year. The information I have is that there were laxities in their approach to this year’s Champions League that is why they were beaten in the preliminary stage. I understand they have conducted some mass recruitment of players and have as well brought in a new coach since then. That confirms their level of seriousness but then these are not things that will scare Kotoko away or prevent us from beating them. We did some checks on them and we will make our findings to the technical bench before the match. I have absolute confidence in our team. We only need to work hard and eschew complacency. I am very sure if we get things right on Sunday, we will not disappoint our fans in Ghana. I believe we will win but we will have to put in some more hard work.
 George Amoako, Director of Finance
At this stage of the competition, there are no pushovers or those you will call minnows. Every team has the potential of excelling and looking at our present team, I believe we can do well. I am convinced that our team can win provided they will not take anything for granted. I like their level of seriousness. I am sure we can win but we have to take our chances very well. To our fans, they should pray for us and remember that this is the time we need their support most.
