Seek permission first

Jerry cautions potential recruits

By Thomas Boakye-Agyeman

Director of Operations, Jerry Asare, has warned footballers who without the permission of management and any invitation from the technical team turn up at the club’s training grounds with the intention of training with the team.

He said the habit of such players and their agents seek to undermine the authority of Kotoko officials and also put pressure on members of the technical team.

The Kotoko official was answering questions from the Kotoko Express after it was observed that the number of players on trials has been increasing every day since the league ended.

The number has been increasing with the passage of time and when the Kotoko Express made the last count on Wednesday evening, as many as nineteen players were present at the Kotoko training grounds.

As if they are aware Kotoko is in need of defenders, majority of the players on trials that this paper spoke to were defenders who swore they are ripe to be in the red jersey of Asante Kotoko.

“The number might even be small as this is only the first batch, we are screening all of them and they are all players who have our permission to train. It is common sometimes for players, their agents; Kotoko supporters and well wishers to bring to us players they claim are good and can play for Kotoko. Most of these players have been on our list for sometime and we feel this is the time to give them the opportunity to express themselves and let us know what they can do on the field” said the Director of Operations.

“We have resolved not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Do you know the likes of Jerry Akaminko and Osei Banahene all came to Kotoko for trials but we never gave them the chance? There are several of them and we later waste money chasing their signatures. It is now a Kotoko policy that we give whoever will approach us the chance to prove what he can do. It was through this practice that Eric Bekoe was made to join Kotoko” said Jerry.

He was however quick in sending out a warning that, it is not every player who is welcome in Kotoko thus potentials are warned to do the right thing.

“All the players you see at the training grounds have been on the waiting list and have also been thoroughly screened before being made to start training. We will not accept the situation where any player would just pick his boots and storm the Kotoko training grounds. You will be sacked if you do that. I think we have all heard about the clubs seeking for players through justify your inclusion, they can go there unannounced but not Kotoko” Jerry said.

He revealed that Kotoko is not embarking on large scale recruitment but will only fill vacant places in the team due to the imminent departure of some players.

Well its like that, KOTOKO is my team and not a small team to do justify your inclusion. Remember Man U had the chance to sign Essien and Muntari but didnt take it. Some other colts clubs should be doing this and KOTOKO should be buying at hight price. Thats a 'advantage' of being a BIG CLUB. say hello to chairman sly for me
