Management to regulate player interviews– Kwame

By: Jerome Otchere

Director of Communications, Kwame Baah-Nuakoh has defended management’s decision to regulate press interviews with players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko saying that management could not allow the players to speak to journalists without prior approval.

He said it was proper that management had foreknowledge of all press interviews with the players since not all information about the club could be divulge even by administrators of the club.

The Director of Communications made these pronouncements when answering a question posed by Victor Kofi Adu Poku of Nkosuo Radio at a press conference organised by management at the Baba Yara Stadium Sports ahead of last Saturday’s Confederation Cup match against J. S. Kabylie of Algeria.

Adu Poku had wanted to know why management had barred the players from speaking to the press especially on radio.

Kwame Baah-Nuakoh in response said “As managers of the club, we have the right to determine what the players say on radio and in all press interviews. We cannot prevent them from talking or speaking to the press. However, we will continue to regulate what they say”.

“We must have privy information of all player interviews. We must be sure of the issues they are likely to be interviewed on before they come out. That is why we demand that requests for player interviews are passed through management” Kwame explained.

The Kotoko spokesman, a reputed sports broadcaster, told journalists that management viewed the role of the media in the development of football as significant.

“Management sees the media as partners. We believe that your presence and role is crucial to our growth and development. We will not undermine your work. We also expect you to support us in our work but the truth is that we cannot allow unlimited or unrestrained access to our players”.

Kwame Baah-Nuakoh who was highly impressed by attendance at the conference appealed to the media to hype the club’s matches both on the local and international scenes. He thanked all for the success of the programme saying that management would come up with more of such programmes ahead of the club’s continental and local matches.

The program it must be noted was attended by all press houses in the Ashanti Regional capital.
