Players launch “Operation win all matches”

There are just seven matches left for the 2010/11 Glo Premier League season to be bid farewell, However, it is still not clear which four teams will secure a ticket to participate in the Ghalca Top Four competition next season.

The points build up on the log sheet is so close to the extent that until the final whistle is blown, it will be difficult to pin-point the three other teams that will join Berekum Chelsea in the top four mini tournament.

The same applies to the relegation zone. Apart from probably B.A Stars who seems to be heading towards the division one league, one can hardly determine which teams will cross carpet to the wilderness.

Consequently, all the clubs are intensifying their preparations in order to finish well at the end of the competition and Kumasi Asante Kotoko is no exception.

In their quest to ensure that no points slip through their fingers in the remaining matches, the playing staff have launched “Operation win all matches”.

According to Louis Quainoo, the operation will guide and motivate them to deliver the goods in the matches left.

“We want to grab the remaining 21 points at stake that is why we have come out with this operation. We know it will inspire us to success,” Louis Quainoo said.

The Fabulous boys had a hectic time in the first round of the league. The team managed only 18 points from a possible 45 in 15 games, but Korak and his boys have been very impressive in the second round.

In the eight games played so far, they have won six, drawn one and lost the other one to Berekum Chelsea.

This has lifted Kotoko to the second position on the league table with 37 points behind Berekum Chelsea who have 50.

However, Louis Quainoo says they will not surrender until the curtains on the competition are brought down.

“On paper Chelsea are favourites for the league but we will keep fighting hard until the final whistle is blown because football is full of uncertainties,” he noted.

Louis Quainoo joined the Porcupine Warriors three seasons ago and has been very influential in the team. He was awarded a brand new Akai refrigerator from management for his wonderful display and commitment in the first round.

He says he is impressed with his performance so far at Kotoko. However, he is still looking up to an improved performance in the days ahead of him. He says his major target is to win a premiership title.

“My stay with Kotoko has been successful though there have been challenges in some instances. At least I have achieved fame for myself as a player and also got the opportunity to play in some Africa matches and I consider this as a big honour to me,” he said.

When the league resumes next week, Kotoko will travel to Tamale to battle R.T.U in match day 24.

From all indications it will be a crunchy encounter because each side seriously needs the three points at stake to better their position in the competition.

While Kotoko need it to keep their top four aspirations on track, R.T.U also need it to salvage their image in the competition.

Asked whether he sees R.T.U who are yet to lose a game at home in the second round as a threat to their quest of winning the remaining matches, Louis Quainoo was emphatic that R.T.U cannot quench the fire currently burning in Kotoko.

After R.T.U, Kotoko will play Berekum Arsenal, Heart of Lions, Ashgold, Mighty Jets, Liberty and Medeama in their remaining six games.

In his response to how he sees Kotoko chances in these matches, Louis Quainoo indicated that they are taking one match at a time. He added that their focus is on R.T.U and when they finish with them they will plan for the other matches.

The utility player also lauded Kotoko performance in the MTN FA Cup  and charged his colleagues to consider the stiff opposition they went through in their last two games against Deportivo and Aduana as a wake up call and sit up, because all the participating teams attach importance to the competition.
