It is now official. After two days of informal discussion between the leadership of Kotoko and Al Merriekh Sport Club of Sudan, the management of Merriekh have formally proposed a sister-club relation ship with their counterparts from Ghana.

This proposition was announced by the general manager of Merriekh, Mohamed Goffer Goriesh, at a reception help in honour of Kotoko at a Nile riverbank restaurant last Thursday.

Informing the gathering on the reason for their proposition, Mohamed Goriesh traced the rich history and pedigree of Kotoko and the fact that Kotoko is the best club for them to be associated with.

“We have been studying the profile of many clubs on the African continent for some time now, and I will like to say that Kotoko has about one of the best records and more importantly, a history that we would like to be associated with”

“Kotoko by their performance in the matches that we played have shown that they are still a force to recon with and so on behalf of the board of directors of Merriekh and the council of patrons, I will like propose that we make this invitational meeting an annual affair”.

“We have proposed Kotoko and another great club may be from Nigeria and one other from East Africa so that we can be meeting annually to prepare our teams for our continental assignments. It is my hope that our proposal will be positively considered for our mutual benefit,” he added.

Responding to the proposition, Chairman Asare thanked Merriekh for their wonderful hospitality and dignity they have given Kotoko and gave them his assurance of a positive response to the proposition.

“The reception and hospitality that have been accorded us have really overwhelmed us and I will like to assure you that our management team will meet decide on it. And with the approval of the owner of the club, we will get to you as soon as possible to finally seal the agreement with the appropriate documentation to that effect”.

“We thank you so much and want to place on record that Kotoko is in principle interested in the relationship and will work hard to bring it into fruition”.
