After almost two years of complaint of the sidelining of Kotoko players into the various national teams, Kotoko Express can now confirm that the story as spoken about before will soon change.
Reports received and confirmed by the director of finance and administration, George Amoako, indicates that four players, Prince Anokye, Francis Akwaffo, Eric Nii Adjei, and Prince Amponsah, have been invited by the technical handlers of the national under 23 side, to beef up their team for selection into the final squad for the upcoming Olympic Games in The Peoples’ Republic of China.
The invitation of the players no doubt has been based on the sterling performance they put up in the 2006/2007 season and the just ended GHALCA/Onetouch Top four competition.
Though the players had not been officially told of their invitation at the time of filling this report, a chat with one of them indicated that he had been hinted even before the team left for the German tour that he was being considered and so took every bit it seriously.
“Playing for any of the national teams has been the aspiration of every footballer worth his profession and so I have been praying to God for the full confirmation of it”.
“Though your information is still not the official one, I will like to believe that it is true since all the people who have been calling to tell me this same story cannot be wrong,” the player who wants to remain anonymous till after the official invitation said.
When officially confirmed, the number of Kotoko players in the Black Meteors will increase to five, as Eric Nii Baah until his being benched at the All Africa Games, was the number one goalkeeper of the side.
It is the hope and wish of this writer that the newly invited players will lift high the Kotoko flag by making a meaningful contribution to the success of the national team.
